THE MAN BEHIND IT ALL

Recording Rescue is the brainchild of Richard Black, a pianist, recording engineer, audio consultant, electronics designer and all-round ‘Mr Fix-It’. As well as devising the Recording Rescue techniques, Richard has discovered several previously undocumented sources of distortion in audio equipment (presented by him in papers at Audio Engineering Society conferences), and has done practically every conceivable job related to classical music recording: performer, engineer, producer, editor, equipment designer and repairer, administrator. This unusual breadth of experience, plus his exceptionally good musical ear (he has unusually accurate perfect pitch and spends a lot of his time coaching leading opera singers), has made it possible for him to come up with techniques which require detailed knowledge of many different fields, from psychoacoustics to signal transmission theory.
